Becoming a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
A Registered Behavior Technician, or RBT, is a certification offered by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). An RBT is trained in and applies the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Typically an RBT can expect to provide direct care in one-on-one and group settings to clients. This may include teaching communication, play, social skills, and independence to clients, following behavior reduction and skill acquisition plans developed by supervisor(s), collaborating with treatment teams by participating in supervision meetings, and collecting and recording data on client behaviors, An RBT may also be asked to travel to and from local session sites (such as a client's home, school, or community event), assist supervisor(s) with behavior reduction and skills acquisition assessments as well as assist supervisor(s) with the development and preparation of session materials.
